Crow Horse Painting by Laura Mountain on Deer Hide - LMH22

SKU: LMH22

Crow Horse

This Painted Hide by Laura Mountain has sold.  Allow 4-8 weeks for an additional hide to be created.

Approx. Size: 56"H x 35"W

For Crow Horse Laura painted an evolution of three different forms of biographic art superimposed onto a White Tail Deer Hide. They include:

  •  Petroglyph style (etched into rock),
  •  Pictograph style (usually painted on rock or leather),
  •  Ledger art (usually painted on cloth or paper)

Ledger art got its name from the use of discarded accounting ledgers that were an abundant paper source in the late 19th century. It was primarily painted by the men in the community, and depicted events of valor and tribal importance to honor the persons involved.

The hide is embellished with seed beads, horse tail hair, and trade cloth. Around the outside edge are Native American made, antique red heishi beads from discarded victrola records. Here I have painted an evolution of three different forms of biographic art

Hides are Hand Painted by Local Prescott Artist Laura Mountain of Cherokee heritage. Laura feels it is important that the materials used are as genuine and natural as possible. Hand crafted arrowheads, shells, feathers, and various trade beads are hand sewn, wrapped, and tied with sinew. Ground earth pigments are mixed with natural bases and oils to produce her paints.
